Anders is a PhD student in Sociology at Nord University in Norway who will be staying at the Weizenbaum Institute for one month starting from January 7th. In his dissertation, Anders examines how Islam is discussed in Norwegian, Swedish and Danish media. Both news articles published by mass media outlets and their Facebook comment sections are analysed, with a primary focus on the comment sections. The main aim is to investigate to what degree and in which ways these otherwise relatively similar Scandinavian countries differ in how they discuss Islam. Theoretically, the dissertation draws on counterpublic theory, meaning his focus is to analyse how the comment sections are used to challenge mainstream discourses on Islam.
